What Should I Ask For At My Baby Shower?

What Do I Ask For At My Baby Shower Party?

Hello mommy to be, a baby shower is a great way to announce the good news to your family and friends. Having a baby shower doesn’t have to be stressful if you plan your party ahead of time and find out what you need to do in your party.

A baby shower party especially benefits a newly wedded couple. This is because newly wedded couples are usually on a very tight budget in terms of finance and you would need as much help as you can get.

When I was pregnant with my first child my in laws helped us out a lot. They bought us a crib with mattress, some drawers, a stroller and even hosted a baby shower for me.

Well at that time my husband and I were a pretty new couple and my family was living in a different state, so we much appreciated the help we could get.

Oh right, don’t forget to create or plan some kind of games to entertain your guests. Playing games is a great way of breaking the silence and awkwardness. Click here to see some of the printable baby shower games or here for more designs.

What should I ask for at my baby shower?

You should ask for anything that you don’t already own for your baby. Something to make things so much easier for your guests is to create a baby registry list.

They will know exactly what you need and it will save them frustration on thinking of what to get for you. You can click here to create one from amazon for your guests.

Items you should get yourself:

Breast pump and breastfeeding products – It might be a good idea to get these items yourself if you are planning to breastfeed your little one.

If you are asking someone else to get these for you, they might feel embarrassed or weird. Even if someone got it for you as a baby shower gift, wouldn’t you feel awkward after opening it?

At least I would and I really don’t know how to respond to that. I definitely don’t want that kind of moment to happen in front of everybody.

Baby Crib and other furniture – Furniture is usually a lot more expensive than other items. The price range for a baby crib is about $100 to $350 and that doesn’t include a mattress. Usually the more features the crib has the higher the price such as included built in drawers, changing stations, and other accessories.

It is better for you to get them yourself unless someone is generous enough to get them for you, like my in laws did. During that time, they went to the store to shop with us and they helped us to pay for it. Well of course we picked out the one we liked.

If it were me I would consider buying the following three cribs, 1) Synergy Five In One Convertible Crib made by Dream On Me, 2) Four In One Convertible Mini Crib and 3) Delta Children Emery Four In One Convertible Baby Crib. If you want to know more about these three cribs or want to know what they look like then just click on the hyperlinks to find out.

I would most likely pick the number three choice because I like the style and it can turn into a full size bed if you buy the required parts like the frame.

All three of these baby beds are super popular among consumers and they have excellent average ratings. In terms of price they are reasonable if you are buying directly from amazon, last time I checked. Third parties usually sell it at a much higher price.

Oh yeah all three of these baby beds can grow along with your baby, if you have the necessary parts you can turn them into a toddler bed and day bed. I have checked the description, and all three of them are made with durable pinewood.

Infant Car Seat – I recommend you to get this yourself since it is required by law for you have to have a car seat when you are being released from the hospital.

The reason I said to get it yourself is because others might get you a used one. I don’t recommend getting a used car seat because it might not be compatible with the current standards and who knows if that car seat has been broken or not.

If you must ask make sure it is a brand new one and put a specific model and brand on the baby registry for your guests to know. You should get this item as soon as possible and don’t delay until close to your due date.

You might have your baby earlier than your due date. I was one week early for my second son and my oldest son was exactly on my due date.

If it were me I would choose the following infant car seat called Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 Elite. Click here to read more about it if you like.

Items you can ask for:

Diaper bag – This is really a necessary item to have if you are planning to travel with your baby, such as just going for a walk in the park. You really need a bag to hold items like, diapers, baby wipes, pacifier, formula or other items.

Baby clothes and Socks – You can never have too many baby clothes. You should ask for different sizes of baby clothes. I think bigger sizes are better because babies usually grow out of infant clothes pretty fast.

Diapers and Baby wipes – You can never have too many of these two items unless your baby is potty trained. You can’t really potty train them until they are around 18 to 24 months and some others are even later.

My two sons stopped wearing diapers around three years old. I know some babies are sooner than that, but each baby is different.

A great way to obtain more diapers and baby wipes is to have a diaper raffle game in your baby shower party. Just ask your guests to bring a bag of diapers in any size or a baby pack of wipes to enter for a prize.

Bathing items – A baby basin or tub that can support your baby’s bathing time is very useful. You should get one that is designed for newborn to toddler and has a fabric sling and cushion supports.

Stroller – A stroller is good to have for taking him places. You can’t actually carry or hold your baby all the time until your baby knows how to walk. It is very tiring when holding or carrying a baby for a long period of time.

High chair – Having a high chair is necessary to feed your baby when he or she is strong enough to sit up. My son was able to sit up when he was 7 months old without any helpers and I was able to feed him baby food in a high chair.

There was a relative who gave me a used wooden high chair in my baby shower and I was kind of happy to get it. I didn’t know it was broken though.

Luckily, my son didn’t get hurt from falling off the first time when I was using it. So I ending up having to buy a brand new one. So be sure to check that no parts are broken if you are getting used items, and check a brand new item for defects.

Playpen – Getting a playpen is not mandatory but it is still nice to have in the house. If you are on a tight budget then you might consider not getting it. A portable playpen that can be used for indoors and outdoors is even better.

Baby monitor – The baby monitor can actually tell you what your baby is doing when you are not in the same room. It is convenient to check on your baby by using the monitor, like when your baby is sleeping and you don’t want to wake him or her up.

Speaking of baby monitors, one time I could actually hear my neighbors talking from the first floor in their room when I was living in an apartment on the second floor. We thought that was funny.

The price range for a baby monitor is around $17 to $200. The ones that have camera function usually cost more. If it were me I would choose the Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor. If you like you can click here to read more about it.

Swing – If you are on a tight budget then you can live without this one, but it is still nice to have. My son enjoyed some playing time on the swing but only for a while since he grew out of it pretty fast.

Baby Walker – This might come in handy. This is to train your little one how to walk and it is to strengthen your little one’s legs.

Blankets – You might want to have a few of these because babies usually spit up a lot after they have been fed. My oldest son spit up a lot for the first three months and I had to keep on changing his clothes and blankets. Different babies do act differently because my youngest son didn’t spit up as much as my oldest son.

Digital Thermometer – You should always have one of these at home just in case you need to check your baby’s temperature. It is also a good idea to have one in your diaper bag.

Other baby accessories –  Baby carrier, nail clippers, empty bottles, burping cloths, pacifier, baby night light, changing pads.
